Vernon Green Nursing Home receives state quality award
Vernon Green, the skilled nursing care facility at Vernon Homes, received the 2018 Nursing Home Quality Award from Vermont’s Agency of Human Services in September 2018. This marks the third time in the last four years that Vernon Green has been recognized.
Of Vermont’s 37 nursing homes, Vernon Green was among only five that earned this award that recognizes “outstanding nursing homes, which have met high standards of quality of care for Vermont’s nursing home residents.”
Agency Commissioner Monica Hutt presented Vernon Homes Executive Director Bradford Ellis with the award. Criteria for selection include the results of surveys for health, resident satisfaction, the absence of complaints, and participation with the Quality Improvement Organization.
Ellis said, “Receiving this recognition again is made possible by a culture built on consistent high standards of care and team effort. Validation from the state provides the families of our residents with added assurance that their loved ones are getting exceptional care.”

The awards keep coming
In September 2016, Vernon Green was awarded the Nursing Home Quality Award from Vermont's Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living. This follows last year's performance when we were one of five out of Vermont's 37 nursing homes to earn this prestigious award.
The department gives the award to recognize "outstanding nursing homes, which have met high standards of quality of care for Vermont's nursing home residents." It is based on the results of surveys for health, safety and resident satisfaction, the absence of complaints, and a facility's cost effectiveness.
Receiving this recognition takes a team effort, and the entire Vernon Green team deserves credit. The families of our residents especially can take further comfort knowing that their loved ones are getting the best possible care.
Executive Director Brad Ellis brings home another leadership award
For the 3rd year in a row (2015, 2016, 2017), Brad was awarded the Eli Pick Facility Leadership Award by the American College of Heath Care Administrators for his leadership of our nursing facility Vernon Green.
The award recognizes administrators whose teams have achieved a level of organizational quality that few others have been able to reach. He was one of only 280 nursing home administrators nationwide who received the award and one of just 247 recipients whose award included virtual recognition, meaning that he provided leadership throughout the entire award year.
The ACHCA believes that nursing home excellence is a reflection of leadership excellence, and selects winners based on a number of objective quality criteria and occupancy rates.
Of the thousands evaluated across the nation, Brad was one of only 227 leaders who received the award with virtual recognition, meaning he provided leadership throughout 2015, 2016 and was judged on criteria over a three-year period comprised of Vernon Green’s survey data, top 25 percent quality-measures performance, 80 percent or greater facility occupancy, and zero citations for “Special Focus Facility” status, a designation established by the federal government for under-performing facilities.
Larry Knowles, President of Advent Christian Retirement Communities, VH’s umbrella organization, said, “Meeting the award’s exacting requirements takes a commitment from leadership and all staff members. We are all proud of Brad’s well-deserved recognition and proud of the fact that the award reflects on the quality commitment of everyone at Vernon Homes.”
Congrats to Brad and the entire Vernon Green team! This award is yet more proof that our residents are being served at a high level of care.
